Canon T2i (DSLR video gear)

I just purchased a Canon T2i – primarily for its video capability.  I thought I’d start a discussion thread to assist any others who may be looking at this camera amongst the various DSLR options out…

Synching Externally Recorded Audio
1 Reply

I am recording audio with an external recorder.  I want to synch that up to my video clips in Final Cut Express.  I’m doing a “1-2-3-clap” to enable the synch – but now that I’m bringing both video a…

Canon 5D Mark II

Izzy, Thanks also for your comments. In my case, I anticipate shooting short clips (well short of 10 mins each) and glueing them together in Final Cut to assemble 3-4 min shorts. (Of course as soon…

Canon 5D Mark II

Steve, Thanks for the note and references to some other sites. I'm thinking the audio capability won't be an issue because I record audio separately -- so except for the hassle of synching audio cli…

Look up the Plural Eyes software which has gotten good reviews but I am not sure whether it is compatible with Express Steve Douglas

John, "b-roll" is video footage that follows the narrative. In this case, maybe shots of Tom walking through the salvage yard, dealing with clients/antiques, shots of the "old" neighborhood (or old photos w/Ken Burns effect), streets/signs that he…

Steve, Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure what you mean by "...maybe a bit of tied in b-roll"

Interesting idea keyframing the stills w/text with the narration. I agree that some video interview shots are lacking & maybe a bit of tied in b-roll, but still gave me that PBS doc feel that I really like. As far as the FCP compression techs, docum…

Nice audio. What type of audio equipment are you using?

I noticed that the background hiss comes in and out -- maybe if you recorded some background hiss it wouldn't be as noticeable. The pace is good: it definitely moves along quickly without a lot of lulls.

I like the audio on this - background music but not drowning out the narration. Some shots of the mixer soundboard were nice; others would be stronger with some different lighting. I would have also liked to see different lighting on the narrator: 3…

Wonderful peaceful effects. Love the geometry of the composition - 3 trees laid across those horizontals.

In the past two months our older Olympus digital camera died and we were forced to make a decision. With limited funds, we had to dive into the pool that is the digital camera universe and purchase another. What we decided upon was the Canon Ti1, which as you may know is a DSLR that is capable of HD video. While I do wish it were capable of taking longer video and had better sound qualities, it does have the advantage of making the short clips and not having to carry around my GL2. So far, I'm very pleased with it, albeit still learning it's various settings of which there are a ton.

Yes, I'm very much looking forward to creating more content as we plow our way into web video.

Hi John. I'm just beginning to build a portfolio of work. My wife has a background in radio news and I love the audio/video realm. I'm also learning the basics of Final Cut Express and hoping to graduate to Final Cut Pro/Studio in the near future. We have a myriad of interests and plan on joining the world that is the new media of web video and podcasting as soon as possible.
