8mm transfer to dvd

Great site and very informative Steve. Thanks. It looks as though most of the reels I have are standard 8mm. Now, the next thing I need to figure out is, do they have sound? Will have to go through…

8mm transfer to dvd

Hi Steve and thanks for your reply. I have an additional question: How do you tell the difference between regular 8MM and Super 8MM? Is there some distinguishable marking on the film or the reel? I'…

Compressing Video

Izzy, just to let you know, using MPEG Streamclip did the trick. It took a 150 MB .mov file and compressed it down to 39 MB's. Fantastic! Wish I had known about it earlier. I didn't take the time to…

Thanks Izzy. I'm going to be doing a lot more of this so that's good to know. I want you to know that I look forward to reading your posts on FB. Of all the tutorials I've seen and downloaded, yours are by far the best. I only wish I had FCP/Studio…

Hi Gordon, This question is a little difficult to answer, because the answer will change depending on different cases. That said, here's a pretty good work-flow for standard online video. 1. From Final Cut Express, export a full-quality Quicktime…

Hi Izzy. What do you suggest is the best way to compress video for the web in FCE that's about 5-8 mins and keep it under 100 MB's? I continually get rendered video that's well into the 140-60 MB range that I need to upload and I'm under a 5GB bandw…

Gordon,
We're on the same path. I tackled Final Cut Express over Christmas and am still working out some details (esp. the conversion processes to preserve aspect ratio) - but I now have a workable model and can get back to actually creating content. I've also ordered the new Canon DSLR with video capability so I can add some actual video to what I've been doing (which has been slideshows: still images, recorded audio, and Live Type animated text elements).
It sounds great that you and your wife can do this alongside each other. I can't get my wife interested in these projects. But I have 2 sons and I'm hoping one of them picks up some interest. One has mentioned doing a project on the Revolutionary War. Having the general capability of communicating information this way would be a useful skill, even if it's not a passion / hobby.

Gordon,
Sounds like we may be doing much the same type of thing. Do you have any demos of the types of projects that you are doing?
